Notice of Establishment of "Physics Day

In response to a call for proposals in October 2024, we received over 200 suggestions for candidate dates for "Physics Day" and asked for votes to select the most appropriate date for "Physics Day" for the 13 candidate dates selected by the Board of Directors.
Voting closed on February 7, 2025, and the Board of Directors discussed the results,
"November 3"
will be established as "Physics Day."

The Origin of the Designation of November 3 as "Physics Day

On November 3, 1949, the Nobel Prize was awarded to Hideki Yukawa. He was the first Japanese ever to receive the prize. The atomic number of nihonium, an element discovered in Japan and listed on the periodic table, is 113. Thus, November 3 was designated as "Physics Day" because it is a memorable day for physics in Japan.

We sincerely appreciate your suggestions and votes.

Activities related to "Physics Day" will be posted on The Physical Society of Japan website, SNS, etc.
