The origin of the Physical Society of Japan traces back to the “Tokyo Mathematical Company,” an academic society founded by mathematicians and physicists in 1877. The name was later changed to " Tokyo Mathematico-Physical Society " and then to " Physico-Mathematical Society of Japan " in 1919.
Counting from this beginning, the year 2027 marks the 150th anniversary!
Right after World War II, in 1946, the " Physico-Mathematical Society of Japan " was split into " The Physical Society of Japan" and " The Mathematical Society of Japan". The year 2026 will represent the 80th anniversary of the establishment of those two societies.
Furthermore, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of quantum physics, UNESCO has decided that 2025 will be the "International Year of Quantum Science and Technology!
The years 2025-2027 are full of celebrations for The Physical Society of Japan. During this period, We would like to ask you, the students, what is physics? What is interesting about physics? What is interesting about physics?
